An important part of your child’s development is creative play (creativity). Through imaginative play, your child can develop physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. All creative experiences can assist your child in developing these skills and help them share their feelings, ideas, and thoughts. When children are exposed to creative opportunities, their development is enhanced.
All children are born with imagination and creativity. Providing them with ways to release their creative energy will create space for further development. Children need opportunities and materials to allow them to explore creative experiences. The more varied activities that children have, the larger range of creative expression they will acquire in their early years.
Language Development
During creative play, children’s vocabulary is expanded. When children are engaged in creative discovery with an educator, they will learn an assortment of new words and have the proper use of these words demonstrated with repetition and physical exploration.
Physical Development
When your child is dancing to the rhythm of their own beat, discovering the outdoors, or playing make-believe with a sibling or friend, they are engaged in physical creative play. Physical creative play helps inspire movement and improve fine motor skills, coordination, and control.
Emotional Development
When children are young, they can use many creative activities such as arts and tools to share their feelings if they are not yet ready to share verbally. Creative play helps emotional development by incorporating feelings with tasks. Over time, your child will learn how to share their feelings safely and creatively, helping them to participate in social settings and adjust their behavior accordingly.
Brain Development
Children will learn important problem-solving skills during creative play. For example, when children read, they are given the chance to express their imaginations supporting brain development.
Social Development
Your child will increase their social development when they are provided with the opportunity to play and engage with friends. When children sing, dance, and do other forms of imaginative play they will develop and improve their basic communication and social skills. Preschoolers will learn to listen to others, work together as a team and value the contributions of others.
